All streamers face the same questions when first starting out. What’s a good webcam I should go with?

Whether you’re starting out as a new streamer or simply want to update your gear to the next level, selecting the right webcam is an important step to consider when it comes to optimizing the viewer experience. Ultimately, you want to bring the best viewing experience to your followers and subscribers.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a new webcam, I’ve done the research for you and put together a list of the 12 best webcams for streaming.

Entry Level Webcams

These webcams are great for just starting out and managing a budget price tag. These cameras provide HD video resolution while maintaining focus to deliver a crisp, clearly detailed, and vibrantly colored video to your stream.

Logitech C920 HD Pro

The Logitech C920 webcam

You cannot go wrong with Logitech webcams. The default ‘go to’ webcam for streamers starting out. On the market for 11 years now, this webcam is impressive in how well it still holds up against the more modern competition. The Logitech C920 tends to be the most popular bang for the buck webcam. It’s the tried and true tested webcam out there with a $100 or less budget.

It is inexpensive, dependable, and provides the best image quality for the money. It meets or exceeds all basic requirements, with excellent video quality at 1080p. You can stream in 1080p at 30 frames per second or in 720p at 60 frames per second.

Paired with Logitech’s G Hub software, there is a setting for streaming. The streaming setting prioritizes frame rate. It’s a total game-changer, in my opinion.

C922 Pro Stream

The Logitech C922 webcam

The Logitech C922 is the C920’s gaming-focused successor. It has all of the features of the C920 plus a few more.

The C922 can stream at 60 frames per second at 720p or 30 frames per second at 1080p. It also has a noticeable improvement in image quality in low lighting. This is especially useful if you’re streaming without any lighting.

Comparing C920 and C922

You cannot go wrong with either option. Personally, I started with the C920 as the C922 was not released when I started. I love my C920 and, even though it’s not my main camera anymore I still use it every now and then when an extra camera is needed for an event or scene I am streaming.

You can probably find a C920 for a cheaper price than the C922. However, the C920 has now been discontinued by Logitech. Though, you can still (at the time of writing) find it in stock on Amazon for the time being.

Here’s a quick comparison table of each webcam’s specs:

Logitech C920Logitech C922

Camera Mega Pixel3.03.0
Focus TypeAutofocusAutofocus
Field of View78°78°

In the end, the C922 will cost you more than a C920. Spending a little more will grant you the ability of being able to capture video at 720p at 60 frames per second and an improvement to low light conditions.

Picture quality-wise, it’s pretty close to the same when comparing both models together.

For most, the C920 will be more than adequate for their needs. And truthfully, to properly set up your streaming area you should save the extra $30 and invest in some lighting improvement – which you will continue using later down the road. Ideally, you do not want to stream in low light so the improvement to low lighting on the C922 is a minimal perk.

Both cams are great, but save money and get the C920. If the day comes when the C920 is out of stock and no longer available then the C922 would be the next best entry webcam.

Intermediate Level Webcams

These cameras pack a little more punch in terms of features offered over entry-level webcams. Generally, these webcams will provide video capture at higher resolutions and framerates to further provide the best image quality to your viewers. You will notice a sharper, less grainy, better-colored picture.

Logitech StreamCam

The Logitech StreamCam webcam

Another Logitech webcam, the StreamCam is a webcam specifically designed for streamers and YouTubers. It captures video in 1080p at 60 frames per second and provides great low-light performance utilizing smart exposure. The intelligent exposure system adjusts the aperture and ISO speed in real-time to ensure accurate skin tones for a more natural, healthy look—even in varying lighting conditions.

A unique feature of the Logitech StreamCam is the ability for the camera to rotate in which the video feed will switch between portrait and landscape picture modes. This can be useful depending on your capture needs as you stream some creative events for your community.

Another feature of the Logitech StreamCam is its face-tracking technology. The smart auto-framing mode will dynamically adjust the picture framing to keep you in the center of the live shot, even as you move left or right in the frame.

The Logitech StreamCam integrates well with Logitech’s G Hub software for applying any post-capturing filters and exposure limits.

With StreamCam, you can be confident that you’ll always look great.

Elgato FaceCam

The Elgato FaceCam webcam

The Elgato FaceCam webcam is designed specifically for the needs of streamers, removing all unneeded features and focusing solely on the features that matter to us. The webcam does not come with any built-in mic or even autofocus. But, honestly, a streamer should not be utilizing the built-in mic and once the webcam is set up on your desk or monitor the autofocus doesn’t really matter anymore.

The video performance of the Elgato FaceCam is also quite impressive. It processes raw footage in uncompressed YUV video which means that there is no re-encoding being performed on your webcam feed resulting in zero artifacts popping up post-processing.

The Elgato FaceCam also has a wider field of view than compared to its competition in this price range. This is better for showing more than one person in the frame or a broader background behind you.

The Elgato webcam software is very intuitive and user-friendly, making recording and editing your videos afterward that much more productive. If you are brand loyal to Elgato, thus webcam also integrates well with its other products.

Comparing Logitech StreamCam and Elgato FaceCam

Honestly, these are two great webcams. Probably the best choices before moving into the 4K resolution realm. You cannot go wrong with either choice. Here’s how they stack up next to each other:

Camera Mega Pixel2.12.1

My personal opinion on both webcams, I’d go with the Elgato FaceCam.

Both provide great picture quality after tweaking the exposure setting to better fit your room environment. However, the picture feed looked much clearer and sharper on the Elgato FaceCam over the Logitech StreamCam when compared side by side. I also liked the software control from Elgato’s Camera Hub more than Logitech’s G Hub software.

Also, for some users, there have been troubleshooting reports where the Logitech webcam settings constantly get reset and require frequent reconfiguring for optimal video feed quality. I personally have not witnessed this issue, my Logitech G Hub software has always kept and saved any settings I manually tweak.

High-End Webcams

For those with deep pockets or who have a successful streaming career already and want the best of the best, here are some webcams that I would recommend for you to look into further before making a purchase.

Remember though, this article is reviewing webcams. At this level, it may be worth taking a look at DSLR cameras or camcorders instead.

The OBSBOT 4K Tiny webcam

No matter how much you move around the room, OBSBOT 4K Tiny webcam will keep you in frame with its AI motion-tracking capability – all in 4K resolution too! Feel free to wander around without concern if you are in the frame or not, this webcam will rotate back and forth keeping you in the frame, and even has autofocus to ensure the best video capture is delivered to your viewers.

This webcam is tiny! I was surprised how little this webcam was as the pictures online make it look like it should be mounted on the wall or desk. Surprise, it mounts on top of your monitor! This is one power webcam for its size. Here’s a little comparison of webcam size versus the Logitech C922 and Razer Kiyo.

Webcam size comparison for the Logitech C922, Razer Kiyo, and OBSBOT Tiny 4K

This webcam delivers a top high-quality image and even has a decent built-in microphone if you are too far away from a desk-mounted mic. It also utilizes a software bundle for tweaking capture settings to fit your needs – although, it was a little basic and lacked innovation compared to competitors’ software. However, that didn’t deter me from using this webcam for my gym workout streaming.

Insta360 Link

The Insta360 Link webcam

Similar to the OBSBOT 4K Tiny, the Insta360 Link webcam is another AI motion-tracking camera capturing in 4K and 30 frames per second. It works great with OBS, XSplit Broadcaster, VCam, Zoom, Skype, Facebook, or any streaming app. This is a great, probably the greatest webcam in existence right now.

The Insta360 Link is a large jump-up in quality in all respects from the intermediate-level webcams reviewed. Its image is sharp and clean, its color balance is far better, and the low-light quality is far above any other webcam. It’s closer to a lower-end DLSR setup ($1,000 camera with $800 lens and capture card) than any webcam I’ve ever used or seen samples from.

It is also similar in size to the OBSBOT 4K Tiny, mounting on your monitor.

Both these webcams are great. If I was looking to buy one of these again, I’d honestly grab whatever one was on sale. If I had to choose between either of these webcams at full price, I’d spend a little extra and grab the Insta360 Link. I’ve been very happy with mine with no complaints, although I’ve now moved on to a DSLR camera mainly now.
